Instead of talking about what I do, I figure I would shed some light on the people that make me want to do what I do.
Today, Imma go w/ a one-two punch by shouting out my all-time favorite music producer AND one of my favorite directors, both legends in their respective fields.

First off, DeVante Swing (born Donald DeGrate).
He was the mastermind behind Jodeci’s gritty R&B sound that influenced legions upon legions of R&B acts to follow…to this day, most r&b singers or groups all borrow their swagger from the almighty JODECI.
One of my favorite Jodeci songs/one of ALLtime fave songs, is FEENIN off 1993′s DIARY OF A MAD BAND album.

Also, the music video was made at a time when Suge Knight of DeathRow records was expressing an interest in managing Jodeci, which is why we get Snoop and Tha Dogg Pound cameos in the video. The strain between Jodeci and their label MCA at the time because of Suge Knight is a story for another day.

The music video was directed by HYPE WILLIAMS, though Harold (Hype’s government name) has only shot one feature film thus far, he is a legend when it comes to directing videos and has spawned a slew of imitators, much the way De Swing did with his music. Unlike Devante though, Hype is still extremely busy shooting with the biggest stars — some of his most recent projects are TELEPHONE by Lady Gaga and Beyonce and MASSIVE ATTACK by Nikki Minaj and Sean Garrett.
